Strawberry Almond Belgian Waffles
Columbus Street Inn, Fayette
Think waffles are too heavy and doughy? Not at the Columbus Street Inn. The Strawberry Almond Belgian Waffles aren’t just light and fluffy, they also have a little crunch from toasted almonds mixed into the batter and sprinkled on top. And oh, yeah — they’re the size of a dinner plate!
Served alongside thick-cut slices of bacon and topped with fresh strawberries, the waffles are so delicious they don’t need syrup.
The inn, built in 1870, is decorated with antiques and has original hardwood floors and fireplaces in the four bedrooms. Owned by Ben and Mary Hightower, the Columbus Street Inn opened to the public in 1992, and plates its gourmet breakfast with the finest china and silver.
The caveat? These scrumptious Strawberry Almond Belgian Waffles only come with a night’s stay. But it’s well worth a trip to indulge in the most important meal of the day.
